Hydroseeding is a method of planting a lawn that uses a slurry of seed and mulch. The slurry is mixed on site in a Finn Hydroseeding unit, and sprayed over prepared ground.
Spray It Green – Hydroseeding slurry contains other ingredients to improve your lawn health including fertilizer, fiber mulch, and green dye. Our dye is eco-friendly and will not damage native New Zealand plants. The dye is used so that we can see where we have sprayed and ensure we have maximum coverage.

Hydroseeding is a quick, proven and affordable way to establish thick grass that surpasses any other method, including ready lawn. Some of the many advantages if offers over conventional seeding processes are a quicker, more uniform germination, reduced labour costs, and superior erosion control.

Hydroseeding is the most economical choice for establishing the desired turf without the expense, time, material costs or installation demands of ready lawn or traditional hand seeding methods. It is more cost effective than ready-lawn (about a quarter of the price), and although higher in price than hand seeding, offers a superior end result.
The lawn quality that hydroseeding gives is much healthier, greener and longer lasting than ready lawn or hand seeding applications because the root establishment is deeper into the soil and avoids the shock of being transplanted into foreign soils.
With hydroseeding, you get a thicker, more uniform lawn. The spraying process means that there is a mat of interlocking fibres creating the ideal growing environment for your lawn. Compared to ready-lawn, you don’t have the threat of seams showing, and you avoid the risk of sparse, patchy areas than can come with hand seeding.
Erosion control is the most popular commercial reasons for using hydroseeding. Read more about how hydroseeding can be used to prevent erosion here.
Hydroseeding is extremely versatile and can be used for a wide variety of jobsites and applications. To find out if hydroseeding is right for your needs, please phone Grant on 021870985.
Our hydroseeding application method can be completed in a short period of time. Hydroseeding is faster and easier to install than ready lawn, with a lower labour cost. In most circumstances, you will be ready to mow your lawn within 3-4 weeks.*
Hydroseeding is non-toxic and harmless to the environment, pets and children.
As a hydroseeded lawn is able to retain up to 10 times its weight in water, it is proven to be the best method for a fast, healthy germination.
*Dependant on season and weather conditions.
Hydroseeded lawns come up faster. The contact of the seed with water will trigger the germination cycle, so it is likely that you will have a lush lawn in two weeks.
Hydro seeding has an attractive green appearance that looks far better than lawns dry seeded.
Hydro Seeding mulch adds to the humus content of a lawn as it decomposes.
Ready lawn is more expensive. It generally costs 3 to 5 times more than hydroseeding. Hydroseeding will often produce turf as nice looking as ready lawn within a very short time, at a significant cost savings.
With hydroseeding the new seedlings are grown on your soil. Ready lawn can have a problem with the type of soil it was grown on, not having sufficient compatibility with the soil it is planted on. This is called “not taking”.
With ready lawn, the roots are chopped off when transported to your house, resulting in a less healthy plant. Your hydroseed lawn germinates on your property, and its root systems go down deeper.
Ready lawn can shrink over the first month and if it is not installed properly gaps will open up between the sod rows.
Ready lawn requires a lot of care to ensure that it grows well.
